This is not an ad, just a character profile I'm posting to show a friend. This site is dead, so I figure it's not a problem. If this site is resurrected, feel free to delete.
Name: Nireza
Gender: Female
Age: 55
Race: Wind Elf
She belongs to a rare species of elf that is connected to the winds rather than the forest. While her magic is typical of a Wind Elf, she is more powerful than most.
Occupation: Nireza's magic is, in essence, her occupation. She does not work for a set employer, but is a contractor of sorts, performing tasks with her magic for anyone willing to pay her fees. She is able to easily bring in enough money to maintain a comfortable lifestyle. She doesn't make this public, but she occasionally takes assassination jobs.
Physical Appearance: Nireza is a young-looking woman of slender build. She is fairly short, standing at only two inches over five feet tall. However, it is not uncommon for her to seem taller since her feet are often a few inches above the ground rather than resting atop it. Her hair is a light shade of blonde. The robes she virtually always wears are a light gray color, sometimes appearing to be white. These robes, as well as her hair, are constantly shifting around her form, influenced by the constant aura of wind that surrounds her. The way the robes shift, combined with her feminine beauty, have a way of drawing eyes to herself (the robes are better described in her items section). Her brilliant blue eyes always seem to be electrically charged, tiny lightning bolts arcing within her irises. Her connection with the wind makes her even lighter than she appears to be (she weighs approximately 30kg [65 lb]).
Personality:
Nireza is generally easy to get along with. It is not easy to get her angry, short of actually threatening her. While she is easy to get along with, she is also content to be alone. Among her favorite activities is practicing her magic and seeing herself improve her abilities. She often practices her abilities (she tends to refer to them as 'abilities' rather than 'spells' due to the innate nature of her magic) in the evenings, often leaving the city limits to do so. When she talks with others, her voice is usually a whisper or barely louder than one. Despite her soft voice, she has very little trouble being heard, even overtop of other people, as she is able to use the wind to carry her voice.
If Nireza is threatened, then she can become angry. She is quite willing and capable of killing those who threaten her or those around her with powerful magic, or with a blade.
Nireza is not a religious sort and does not have the strong beliefs that come with it, but there is one principle that she cares for, and that is freedom. While she would like to see slavery abolished, she knows that one mage does not have enough influence to make that happen. However, she will step in of she sees a slave being mistreated without cause. This principle of freedom is also one of the main reasons she choses to work based on contracts, not placing herself under a boss (the other is the example set by her wizard mentor).
Magics:
Nireza is strongly attuned to the winds around her. She is capable of controlling the air near herself, but she is not without limit. Excessive use of magic leaves her magically exhausted so that she cannot cast spells until she gets some sleep (although she remains capable of mundane tasks). Her wind magic is an innate ability, requiring no specific incantations or gestures, although she often uses simple gestures to focus. The energy required to cast a spell is proportional to the quantity of mass (weight) involved and the distance between her and the air being manipulated.

Character History:
Nireza was born in a small village far from the city of Verre Zon. Her first several years were spent without any significant events. She grew up as a daughter of a farming family and an only child. She was an adopted daughter, the identity of her birth parents unknown to even her adopted parents. Even though she had elven traits, her parents treated her like their own child.
All of this changed, however, when her magic abilities began to surface when she was nine years old. While her parents still cared for her, others in the town (in which magic was mistrusted) labeled her a freak. She continued to live with her parents for a few years after this. It took her a few months to learn control her abilities enough to hide them in public. The others in the town soon forgot about the incidents and started treating her better. Although she was hiding her abilities in public, she continued to secretly practice using them.
Several years later, when she was sixteen, the village was attacked by bandits. Nireza, not expecting the villagers' reaction, used her magic to aid them in battle and, according to some, was the force that gave the villagers the advantage they needed to fend off the attackers. Despite the voices that recognized what she had done for the town, most of the villagers were quick to blame her for the deaths and destruction that had been brought about. Her only option at this point was to run for her life. She never heard from her adopted parents or anyone else from that village again.
The next few days were among the hardest of her life. A few of the villagers had actually decided to attempt to track her down and kill her, forcing her to remain on the run. At one point, two of them caught her in a place from which she could not run. Her fear and anger formed a kind of catalyst for her emerging innate talent. Without fully realizing what she was doing, she unleashed a powerful bolt of lightning into one of them, hitting him squarely in the chest from less than ten meters away. The bolt was powerful enough to kill him instantly and arc to his companion, who was left stunned.
Nireza, who as an elf was still a young girl, could not believe what she had just done. She hadn't even been aware that she was capable of such powerful magic. This left her afraid of her own magic, afraid that anything she touched might be blasted by powerful lightning bolts. Over the next couple days, she didn't dare to use her magic at all. She wanted nothing more than to go back to her parents, but she knew that doing so would likely get all of them killed.
After a couple days wandering in the forest, not fully realizing that she was lost, she came across a path, which turned out to be one of the major caravan routes through the region. Initially, she didn't see anyone, so she decided to walk along the path to see where it led. Within a few hours, however, she came across a caravan. They were surprised to see a young girl walking down the path (she looked like she was around eight years old at this point).
To her, the caravan was something completely new, and the people seemed nice enough. Of course, they asked how she had come to be there. It wasn't long before they learned that she had been forced to run into the forest and that she'd survived three days by drinking from streams and eating wild fruit. In addition, they learned that she was capable of using wind-related magic. Unlike the villagers, these people had better understanding of magic.
She soon met the wizard who was escorting the caravan. They ended up spending a lot of evenings together, discussing and practicing magic. It was this wizard who enabled her to overcome her fears of her magic and learn to use it. By the time the caravan reached their destination, an Old World coastal city, Nireza was comfortable with using her lightning ability and no longer afraid of it. It would take time for her to become proficient at hitting things with it, but she had overcome the biggest obstacle, and proficiency was now a matter of time and practice.
The wizard had been intending to sail to the New World, specifically the city of Verre Zon. Nireza, having nowhere else to go, decided to go there with him. However, they spent a few months in the city, during which time Nireza continued to learn her magic. It was also during this time that the wizard, Nireza, and a friend of his made her a robe that they deemed worthy of a wind mage of her power, a robe she still owns and wears (it was enchanted to always fit her well).
As they had planned, Nireza and the wizard sailed to the city of Verre Zon. Even though they sailed along an established and well-traveled trade route, their ship was attacked by a pirate ship. Had not the two magic users been aboard, the pirates likely would have taken the ship. However, the two of them were able to make the difference, between Nireza's blasts of wind and the other wizard's fireballs. They likely would have sunk the pirate, but their ship's captain was only interested in escaping, and the pirate was glad to let them go.
Without any further incidents, they reached the city. Nireza lived with the wizard until his death twenty-five years later (when she was 42 years old). By then, she was fairly proficient with her magic and was able to use it to maintain a comfortable lifestyle.
Belongings:
Her robes: Her constantly shifting light gray robes appear to be made of the clouds themselves, which in a sense they are. They are a product of her magic (although she did have some assistance). While the fabric can seem insubstantial, it can be touched like that of any other clothing. While their constant shifting has a way of attracting attention, particularly from those who think the shifting will reveal some part of her body, the robes cover her body quite reliably. The robes fall almost to the ground, making it difficult to easily determine whether her feet are resting on the ground. The sleeves extend to her wrists, flaring out at the ends. Surprisingly, the fabric is quite difficult to rip or otherwise damage, and it virtually never snags on objects, sliding over them instead. Despite the magical nature of her robes, they do not disappear in a deadzone. However, they act like any other mundane robes in such an area.
Other clothing: She does not wear any jewelry aside from a lightweight silver necklace that she has owned since she was young. She sometimes wears light weight sandals on her feet, although she also often walks around barefoot.
Short Sword: Her current weapon is nothing special, an 18 inch long blade without any enchantments, but she wants to get a weapon with a wind-related enchantment.
Other useful facts:
Because of the weaknesses of her wind magic, she has trained in the use of blade weapons and carries one around. She is no master, but she is quick enough to make the odd thug back off.

Her wind magic is an innate ability, requiring no specific incantations or gestures, although she often uses simple gestures to focus. The energy required to cast a spell is proportional to the quantity of mass (weight) involved and the distance between her and the air being manipulated.
Notable spells (this is far from an exhaustive list):
- Wind walk: Using her manipulation of the wind, Nireza can walk on the air itself. While she can take physical steps across the air, it is no more difficult for her to 'float' through the air. To move herself, this spell takes a little more energy than walking the same speed on the ground. However, she can carry other objects and people with her. While they do not necessarily have to physically be touching her, this does make it easier. In general, she cannot carry anything over 150 kg (~330 lb) more than a few meters.
It takes her a couple of seconds to set up the winds so that she can use them to move herself, but after that she can change direction at will. - Shift: Nireza can draw on her strong connection to the winds to change her essence into that of the wind itself. To those near her, she appears to simply disappear into a mist which quickly dissipates. In her wind form, she is able to move around at will, to any place the winds can reach. She is able to travel quickly in this form, as fast as a gale wind. However, contrary to what some people believe, she is not able to travel from place to place instantly. She is able to shift from solid form into wind form underwater, but doing so will cause her to quickly float to the surface in the form of an air bubble.
While the actual transformation occurs instantly, she must be sufficiently focused to Shift. The shift itself requires a moderate amount of energy, but she can remain in either form indefinitely. In general, she takes about five seconds to shift, and although she can make it faster, she is not quick enough to dodge an incoming weapon. However, it is possible that she could learn to dodge a weapon in this manner with sufficient practice (on the order of a year of focused training). She is not able to use her lightning ability or transform items in wind form, but she retains her ability to control the winds (which is how she gets around in this form). - Wind Sense: This ability allows Nireza to sense the movements of the air. She can also indirectly sense objects by how air moves around them. This ability also allows her to accurately predict the weather. While in solid form, this ability is fairly weak, only allowing her to sense the general shapes and locations of objects. However, in her wind form, where this ability replaces her elven senses, this ability is extremely sensitive. She has learned to relate what she senses with what she can see and hear, allowing her to effectively see and hear things, and while she cannot sense colors, she can sense shapes and textures more accurately than with her eyes and fingers, partly because she easily can access areas that are inaccessible to both senses.
This ability does not require a lot of energy to use, but it requires more energy in her solid form and in her wind form. - Cloud Storage: Nireza is able to shift items into air and back again. She likes to say that she is storing the items 'in the cloud' (pun intended). Each item she stores in this way has a unique 'fingerprint', allowing her to keep track of it and restore it to material form.
She is able to easily transform and keep track of small items indefinitely, but larger items are more difficult to transform, requiring more energy. Keeping track of items does require some energy. It is quite possible for an item to be lost in this form. She would be able to recognize the item if she were to find it again, but tracking down such an item is very difficult. It is worth noting that she is not capable of creating items out of thin air. - Lightning: Nireza can use her powerful connection to the winds to electrically charge herself and unleash powerful bolts of lightning at her foes. If the targets are close enough, she can occasionally even hit multiple targets at once. When this ability is charged, small bolts of lightning are visible arcing in her robes, skin, and hair. Touching her while she is charged is very likely to be deadly.
Using this ability requires a significant expediture of energy. Each lightning bolt in itself represents a moderate amount of energy, and she must continuously use energy to keep herself charged. In addition, the process of charging herself, which is required before she can release lightning bolts, takes around a minute to complete, after which she can launch a deadly blast about every twenty seconds (she can cut this to ten seconds, but it is very draining for her to do so). Nireza cannot use this ability while in wind form. It is possible to absorb the spell with a sword or shield, and this is easier to do if the warrior is farther from her position. The absorbed spell is still likely to kill the warrior, but is easier to resist. Also, it is possible for a lightning bolt to miss completely, although it may then arc into the target for reduced effect. - Wind Blast: Nireza can generate a powerful, focused beam of wind capable of throwing people off their feet. The blast itself does not cause injury, although it is very much possible for someone to be injured when they hit the ground. Nireza has also learned to use this ability to deflect missile weapons.
Using this ability solely to deflect missiles incurs minimal energy drain, but using it on people or objects is much more draining. While a direct hit from the blast will either knock down most people or send them flying, it is possible for heavier warriors can brace against the knockback. She is fast enough to reliably deflect the arrows from two archers as fast as they can shoot them, but beyond that, she is likely to be overwhelmed. - Wind Aura: In minimal form, this spell is constantly active, but Nireza can 'supercharge' it, making it an effective defensive ability. While this spell is fully active, powerful winds surround Nireza, deflecting and throwing objects within five feet of herself. This ability is effective in deflecting incoming projectiles. The spell makes reaching her more difficult, but far from impossible.
Keeping her Aura fully active causes significant energy drain, but less than that of using her lightning ability. The Aura effectively deflects small missiles, such as arrows, but larger projectiles, such as those launched by siege weapons, will not be significantly affected. She can use this ability and lightning at the same time, but the energy use is such that she she will be drained in less than two minutes (she can maintain either spell separately for over 30 minutes).
Strengths/Good Qualities:
- She is capable of wielding powerful innate wind magic.
- Her reflexes are quick (although she doesn't have the training to make full use of them).
- She is immune to the effects of lightning and electrocution.
- She can resist the effects of wind.
- Her vision, while about average for an elf, is better than that of most humans.
- She rarely has trouble hearing something she wants to, for the same reason that she can easily make herself heard. She literally has selective hearing.
Weaknesses/Bad Qualities:
- Her small size makes her weak to physical attacks, as well as poisons.
- Her light weight and small size leave her physically weaker than most people (but she can use the winds to aid her in carrying objects).
- She spends much of her time practicing and using magic, to the point that she does not have a lot of skill in other areas, despite her potential.
- While she generally stays out of the business of the rival factions, she is known to some to be a good (but expensive) assassin or eavesdropper. This could very well get her into trouble with a rival faction when she accepts a deal.
- She can be trusting to a fault. She often cannot tell whether someone is lying, which could lead her into a trap.
- She has revealed an intent to acquire weapons and other items with wind-related enchantments. The prospect of acquiring such an item could lead her into danger.
